Media Invest Vlaanderen co-invests in animation studio Fabrique Fantastique Group

Media Invest Vlaanderen (MIV), the joint venture of VRT and PMV, is co-investing in Fabrique Fantastique Group. The production house and animation studio, known for programmes such as Interstellar Ella and Sir Mouse, completes an investment round of 1.5 million euros. This investment, made possible by Media Invest Vlaanderen, ING and Winwinleningen facilitated by Winwinner, will help Fabrique Fantastique realise its ambitious growth plans with new strong Flemish programmes that also have international potential.

This investment round is the crowning glory of our ten-year existence. This new capital will help us further develop our existing, well-known Flemish creative rights (IP). We will expand our portfolio on and off screen, in Flanders and far beyond. I look forward to presenting even more wonderful stories, sprouting from our rich Flemish clay, to the world.
Tom Van Gestel, founder Fabrique Fantastique

Investment in Flemish creative sector

Fabrique Fantastique is known for developing and producing Flemish anchored brands that score globally. Driven by wonder and imagination, each elaboration is imbued with a strong story, authentic characters and public value. With a team of more than forty dedicated professionals, from 3D artist to scriptwriter, the group has since acquired a solid position in the Flemish and international animation sector.

The investment in Fabrique Fantastique will allow the group to further strengthen their position in the international animation landscape and expand its own portfolio. In addition, Fabrique Fantastique will be able to develop new unique concepts and experiences such as their Sir Mouse do-expos.  In view of this comprehensive commercial strategy, Tim Verschuren has been strengthening the Fabrique Fantastique Group's management team as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) since last year.

VRT and Media Invest Vlaanderen's investment in Fabrique Fantastique is a strategic choice. We believe their unique IP portfolio and 360-degree approach to content creation has enormous potential. By working together, we can fully build on their strength and take the Belgian creative sector to the next level.
Stijn Lehaen, general director Technology & Infrastructure VRT
Fabrique Fantastique can present incredibly high-quality and strong productions and IP with international potential. The new planned developments also reinforce our belief that the company has a promising future ahead of it. A player that combines such international ambition with strong craftsmanship, and driven by a highly creative CEO like Tom Van Gestel, therefore deserves our financial confidence to make a Flemish creative mark worldwide.

From Interstellar Ella to Miss Moxy: creativity across borders

Fabrique Fantastique, founded in 2014, has numerous productions under its belt. One of the showpieces in that impressive portfolio is the internationally acclaimed animated series Interstellar Ella, produced in collaboration with Ketnet and distributed by Aardman Animations, also known for Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. Interstellar Ella captured the hearts of children internationally and was sold in more than 150 countries worldwide, including to Warner Discovery, one of the largest entertainment companies worldwide. Meanwhile, Fabrique Fantastique is getting ready to produce the second series of Interstellar Ella.

Another audience favourite is Sir Mouse, a series about a highly flammable girl knight and her best friend Dragon. With a first series, two podcast series, a Christmas special, two games, a second upcoming series and a growing international fan base, Sir Mouse continues to have success in Flanders and abroad, including Germany, Finland, Norway, Israel and Australia. In Ireland, the series won the 'Kids Choice Award' for best children's programme.

In addition the already established IPs, Fabrique Fantastique is working on new creations, including Gardener Gavin, in collaboration with Ketnet, and the adult animation film JUUL, which responds to the growing interest worldwide in animation for adults. External projects are also on Fabrique Fantastique's radar, including animation work for Eyeworks' Urbanus: The Garbage Hero and De Hofleveranciers' Boerke. With the recent animated film Miss Moxy, commissioned by Eyeworks and Phanta Film, Fabrique Fantastique is currently on its most extensive project.
