"Happily Divorced": long live love after love
In February 2025, VRT introduced a new and bold TV quiz: Happily Divorced. The format combines tension, humor and emotion in a unique way, proving that within a relationship there is always room for reconciliation, fun and socialising - even after a divorce. The show is already highly successful in Flanders but also has international potential thanks to its universal message.
Unique game concept
In Happily Divorced, two ex-partners compete against each other in a series of playful and challenging quiz rounds. But there is more at stake than just honor and glory: the eventual winner gets to go on a dream trip. What's the catch? The children picked out the destination and will be going anyway, but the game determines whether they leave with team mom and her new partner or team dad and his new partner.
“So many children are growing up in newly formed families. We want to show that after a divorce, there is room for forgiveness, happiness and lots of love. With this format, we chose a bold form, but above all heartwarming and groundbreaking storytelling. The creators provide insights and greater understanding of life after divorce.” - Els Roovers, Head of Entertainment & Formats VRT
Format with a heart and humor
The format makes co-parenting not only a topic of conversation, but also the core of an entertaining and moving television experience. Happily Divorced offers a light-hearted but honest look at a reality faced by many families worldwide. Presenter Steven Van Herreweghe interviews not only the ex-partners, but also the new bonus parents and children. How did they experience the breakup? How did they deal with their grief and anger? And how did they find their new roles within the family? A bold game show that offers hope and comfort in addition to humor.
Internationally relevant
With Happily Divorced, Flanders has a format in its hands that not only entertains, but is also globally relevant. The program touches on universal themes: love, loss, co-parenting and the search for harmony after a relationship break-up. This makes it accessible to a wide international audience.
“We are delighted that Happily Divorced has been picked up so well in Flanders and look forward to bringing it internationally as well. This entertaining TV quiz proves to be a relevant format, precisely because it shows in a light-hearted way that after a divorce there is room for hope, humor and a new beginning.” - Guillaume Graux, director and editor, and Steven Van Herreweghe, presenter and format developer
Happily Divorced is a programme produced by production house Panenka for VRT 1 and is distributed internationally by Lineup industries.
