VRT Canvas Documentary Series “The Deal with Iran” Wins Best Docuseries Award at Canneseries
The three-part Belgian documentary series “The Deal with Iran” has won the award for Best Docuseries at the international television festival Canneseries. Produced by Belgian documentary company Diplodokus, with VRT Canvas as the main Belgian broadcaster, “The Deal with Iran” had its international premiere at Canneseries.
The series follows an investigation into a complex web of murder plots, espionage and hostage diplomacy, revealing how Western citizens become pawns in a global geopolitical power struggle. When investigators uncover a plot to bomb an Iranian opposition gathering near Paris in 2018, they expose a network of Tehran-based agents operating across Europe.
“The Deal with Iran” was written by Maarten Stuyck and directed by Lennart Stuyck and Maarten Stuyck. The series was broadcast on VRT Canvas and remains available to viewers in Belgium on VRT MAX.
The Canneseries jury was chaired by Spanish film director Isabel Coixet and included French actors Simon Astier and Vincent Elbaz.
