Future Media Initiative: an ambition to make Europe a global leader in media innovation
The Future Media Initiative (FMI) unites public services media, commercial players, tech innovators and policymakers around a shared goal: making Europe a global leader in media innovation. This initiative transforms bold ideas into real, usable, market-ready and scalable technology that revolutionizes content creation, distribution and how audiences experience media. It will safeguard European democratic values, transparency and trust by championing pluralism, multilingual content and cultural diversity. Furthermore, it will foster financial sustainability and resilience for media companies of all sizes by creating innovative, future-ready revenue streams specially designed for European realities.
The Future Media Initiative is the cluster initiative that focusees on:
Knowledge sharing and collaboration through Future Media Hubs, led by VRT with French-speaking public broadcast RTBF, and with the support of the Flemish Department Culture Youth and Media.
Trends and recommendations through yearly trend reports
European and local policy lobbying through the Vision Paper towards a European Innovation Agenda and the Public-Private Partnership proposal
The Future Media Initiative includes a Public-Private Partnership proposal, a powerful collaboration between the European Commission and industry leaders. This partnership model combines public funding with strategic private investment to drive transformative innovation across the European media sector.
