The Smartest Lot

The Smartest Lot isn’t a knowledge-based quiz. It’s a contest in which the families prove that they do better when their members work together. Swotting up beforehand isn’t much help. The way to succeed is to join forces to complement each other’s strengths and cancel out each other’s weaknesses. In the sofas it soon becomes clear how families arrive at group decisions and who really calls the shots at home.

In three rounds with a high play-along factor, the families have to collect as many lives as possible. After that, the contest shifts up a gear in the semi-finals. These determine which family goes through to the final. In the final, that family can then use the lives it has collected to win as many prizes as possible. After the semi-finals, viewers know which family will be going through to the final and will thus get to stake the lives it has collected in an attempt to secure its dream prizes. The further the family gets, the more prizes its members get to take home.

The smartest lot is engagingly addictive, so there is always plenty of quizzing going on at home as well as in the studio. A feel-good programme for the whole family.
