Take me to your comedy club
Take Me to Your Comedy Club is a four-part documentary series in which stand-up comedian Serine Ayari uses humor as a lens to dive into the heart and soul of a country.
Because if you truly want to understand a nation and its people, humor is the best measure: What makes people laugh? How do they laugh? Who are the favorite targets of jokes? Are there taboos? Who do they find hilarious? And can they laugh at themselves?
In search of answers, Serine travels to Germany, Lebanon, Denmark, and Japan. Respectively: the least funny country in the world, one of the unhappiest countries in the world, the most egalitarian country in the world, and the most extraordinary country in the world.
In each destination, she heads straight to the capital city’s comedy club. Under the guidance of a local insider, she embarks on a humorous road trip, meeting people and visiting places that reveal the country’s comedic spirit.
Finally, Serine takes the stage at the very comedy club where her journey began. With everyone she met seated in the front row, and a backpack full of impressions from a week on the road, she delivers her own stand-up set. Does she bomb or does she nail it? Will the applause be lukewarm—or thunderous?
